Who Am I?
My name is Manuel, and I’m 29 years old. I’m a part time photographer and a full time military.
I was born and raised in a small village in the north of Portugal, near the Peneda Gerês National Park. Ever since I can remember, I have lived in contact with nature and this has made me an outdoor man. There is something special about exploring, getting lost in the quietness of nature, sleeping under the stars after a long day of walk. I think it is a basic need of the human condition, the need to get out of the comfort zone, to travel and to explore the unknown.
I work at the Portuguese Air Force. It’s a demanding job, but I love it! Because it takes up too much of my time, I cannot travel as much as I’d like. Still, I try to travel whenever I can (even if it’s only for the weekend, or even just an afternoon trail).
Photography is my other passion! I studied photography for a year (I still have to complete the second year). For me, photography is the other force that drives me to pack my backpack and lose myself in nature!
In 2016, I decided to walk the Portuguese Camino de Santiago (Way of Saint James), starting from my home (about 120+km). It was definitely a fantastic experience! In the future, I am planning to walk another Camino de Santiago: the Camino Primitivo, or the Primitive Way (300+km). For those who have never heard of the Camino, check this Wikipedia link here.
